FAQ: How are the prices calculated/rounded in Teamleader Focus?

When you create a quotation or an invoice, prices will get rounded. In this article, you'll find the rules we use in Teamleader Focus.

Every price is rounded to 2 digits after the comma per line. This goes for the price incl. VAT as well as the price excl. VAT.

The VAT amount is calculated per line, and then these amounts are added up before the sum is rounded.

Example 1

2222 articles of €0,001 each, 12% VAT

Amount excl VAT: 2222 * 0,001 = €2,222 - rounded to €2,22

VAT amount: €2,222 (amount excl VAT before rounding is used) * 0,12 = €0,26664 - rounded up to €0,27

Amount incl VAT: €2,22 + €0,27 = €2,49

Example 2

The VAT 21% will be calculated in the following way per line:

225*0.21 = 47.25

37.59*0.21 = 7.8939 - rounded to 7.89

895.15*0.21 = 187.9815 - rounded to 187.98

282*0.21 = 59.22

To obtain the total VAT amount, we will add all these rounded numbers=

47.25+7.89+187.98+59.22 = 302.34

This amount is different from when you would calculate it directly on the total amount of the invoice or quotation: 1439,74*0.21=302.35

Both ways of calculating the VAT are correct.

Shortcodes

There are some shortcodes you can use to visualise the price including VAT on your documents.

  • $PRICE_PER_UNIT_INCL_VAT$: this shortcode will be present on your template by default. Note that some prices will get rounded to four decimals after the comma, depending on the calculation.
  • Use PRICE_PER_UNIT_INCL_VAT_2DECIMALS$ for your price to always get rounded to two decimals after the comma. It’s essential to emphasise that this is only visible on the document that you send to the customer. In Teamleader Focus, those four digits after the comma will still be visible.

You can find these shortcodes in the shortcodes list for quotations and invoices. Read more about personalising your templates.
